Either a mountain bike or a hybrid would be a good choice for you. Not a road bike, they are not good for bigger guys and not good for off road.

My advice is to get a road bike and ride the hell out of it and you will wonder why you ever thought about getting a mountain bike. l own 1 of each and my mountain bike never gets used. My road bike has about 2000 miles on it ytd.

You do not want a mountain bike or a road bike. You should look at a hybrid or a comfort/path style bike. Visit the local bike shops and tell them where you want to ride. These bikes are liter then a mountain bike and are good on the road and bike paths.
