On my bike l like where the break its self is but how do l tighten the levers on the handle bar so that l do not have to squeeze as much to stop.

Brake adjustments some vary by manufacturer. If l knew what brand/model brake components u have l might be able to answer better.

If u have V-brakes, ur adjustment problem may be in the cable adjustment. If there is too much play in the cable such that u r pulling the lever & very little caliper movement occurs, u need to tighten the cable. If it is within normal specs & the cable has stretched slightly, u can take up the excess cable by turning the barrel adjuster.

If u have mechanical disc brakes, some of the above applies as well.

If u have hydraulic disc brakes, the engagement adjustments vary by manufacturer but typically a knob or screw on the lever. If u have a delay in engagement or soft action u may have an air bubble in the line & it needs to be bled.

You will find lots of bike maintenance tips on YouTube. Although, look for brakes, not breaks. You will do better search wise!

you will have to tighten the the cable so the brake pads will be closer to the rim. l cant really help you because l dont know what kind of brakes your bike are equipped with
