Hello cyclists! Was hoping to get some ideas on what is better to use for an indoor cycle trainer...the rollers or the stationary kind? Thanks so much!
this is where l am at with cycling! l ride during the summer with a bicycle cart (with my 5 year old in it). l would call it commuting. About 5-10 miles...l ride for fun not professionaly but l may wanna get more serious as my little one grows.

l like rollers but they are a bit more expensive and harder to get used to. its kind of like riding on a treadmill. most professionals have rollers.

Stationary trainers are nice, u probably want to get one of these if ur getting into cycling. the cheap ones are noisy and not to challenging, they just help u get some exercise indoors.

In my opinion, l think trainers are better than rollers since you do not have to focus so much on staying balanced. What l do is setup my trainer in front of the TV, so l can just watch TV and pedal at a steady pace. If on a roller l would probably have to focus too much on cycling and not able to change channel, etc.. l can also stand up on a trainer a few times to work different muscles, l am not sure if you can do that on rollers but l would feel uncomfortable to try that.

rollers are hard to use and even harder if you arent a smooth rider. you can actually wreck off them BTW. the other problem is they have very little resistance, but do develop a very good form. they each have thier advantages and drawbacks. in the end, l like a fluid trainer. wind and mag trainers are noisy. a fluid trainer is about as smooth and quiet as they come.

Well l suggest rollers! It will be a lil bit hard to figure it out at the beginning but after 30Mins u will be so happy.There is more fun in rollers than in stationary! One thing keep a fan working when riding for more than half an hour because u will get dehydrated! And if u use ur road bike on a roller make sure that u buy roller tires. They come with rollers sometimes . Hope l helped. I've used rollers & after the first 2 hours of training l watched TV & now l am not only changing the channels l even ate while riding. IT IS NOT THAT HARD TO USE ROLLERS

Rollers take some skill to use.but if you're not a serious roadie,I'd go with the trainer.

It depends on what you're actually trying to do. They're not the same thing despite people commonly assuming they are. Rollers r actually what r known as ''Technique Rollers'' or ''Technique Trainers'' & do not provide any resistance training. They r strictly to help cyclists develop a smooth & efficient riding style.

A trainer, is actually known as a ''Resistance'' trainer because the fluid or magnetics in the trainer incorporate resistance against ur pedal stroke. but they dont really work on ur technique.

If u want to be smooth & ride with a perfect pedal stroke like the pros do, get a technique trainer. If you're just looking to get a nice cycling workout in on a rainy day, go with the resistance trainer. As someone else pointed out, they're great to just set up in front of the TV & tune out while u get a workout in.
