l just bought 1 from wal-mart yesterday and the pedals broke so l took it back adn got the same oneand l rode it 15 mins and the tire locked up on me! where could l get a good bike that will last about 3-5 years for $100 or less? besides tricycles

You bought 2 bikes from Walmart (junk) and you will get another one just like it (junk) if you spend $100. Never buy a department store bike. Look for a bike shop quality bike on Craig is list or Ebay and do not be afraid to spend some money.

You get what you pay for in the world of bikes. Cheapest bike I've ever seen that was not junk was $250.That was a low end mountain bike on sale.

You wo not find a new bike for $100 that is worth having. Pretty much any department store bike is going to give u problems. Your best bet is to look for a used bike. l always ride used bikes, & l very seldom pay as much as $100 for one. Since winter is at our doorsteps Thrift stores r a good place to look. They do not want to hold onto bikes all winter, so they sell them pretty cheap. Otherwise, check craigslist. Remember, u can always offer less that what they're asking, especially this time of year. Ebay & small local papers r good too. Some smaller papers have free ads for items under $100, so u might find some decent stuff in there. Also, try googling ''bicycle coop (your city)''. Good luck.

Often, the main problem with bikes sold in a place like Wall Mart is that they r assembled by people who have very little mechanical ability, & who lack the proper tools to do a good job. That said, a cheap bike is a false economy. It will require far more maintenance to keep going, & things will wear out much faster. It is a case of pay me now or pay me later. A well made bike will last much more than five years, my first really good bike lasted me over 25 years, & would have lasted longer if l had not crashed it in a road race. A good bike will have better wheels, better tires, & better brakes, all important safety factors. It will also be much more fun to ride, it will be more responsive, handle better, climb hills better, & be easier to operate. Think about all these things before u make ur next purchase.

fuji is not the best bikes around but if you dont want to waist a lot of money they have some of the cheapest ok bikes around. if you want to spend a little more money check out the trek bikes at trekbikes.com

if ur looking for a cheap road bike, old is the way to go.
nice stuff in the 80s is still nice stuff now. bicycling hasnt changed much since then. only carbon and a bit more aerodynamic work.
ive got an 80s bianchi and its great.
